Question: I am only putting a fence up in my backyard. Do I still have to contact Blue Stake?

Answer: Yes. Underground facility operators companies may have facilities on your private property that needs to be marked and protected from damage. It is always best to call before you dig.


Question: After I call, does someone from the Blue Stake come out and mark the lines?

Answer: Blue Stake does not provide any marks. The underground facility operators are notified of your intent to excavate and they must in turn respond with notification of their status within 2 full working days. This notification may include physical marks showing the path of their facilities or they may indicate they have no conflict with your proposed excavation.


Question: I'm a landlord of an apartment complex. Do I need to register with Blue Stake?

Answer: Yes. Effective January 1, 2007, and pursuant to A.R.S. 40-360.32: Every landlord shall file with a one-call notification center (Arizona Blue Stake, Inc.) the property name, property address, contact name or job title, contact fax number, contact mailing address, contact e-mail address (if available), contact telephone number and hours of contact, which must be at least 30 hours per week.

EXCAVATORS: Effective January 1, 2007, and pursuant to A.R.S. 40-360.22:
For all excavations in an apartment community or mobile home park, the excavator shall inform the landlord as promptly as practical that the excavator intends to submit an inquiry to the landlord that will trigger the landlord's obligations provided by subsection B of this section and the inquiry itself shall be made by certified mail to the landlord, using a form prepared by a one-call notification center.
